Christmas Trip to Mt. Elgon

The holidays are for many a time for gathering and celebrating with friends and family. For the children at Hope Children’s Home, about one-half are able celebrate this time with relatives that they visit during Christmas break. Some of the children, however, do not have relatives to visit or are unable to visit them. These children often feel sad that they do not have someone to visit for the holidays.

To brighten their spirits, Light Up Hope provided the funds to send these kids, along with our Kenyan partners Fred and Alice, on a “safari” to Mount Elgon National Park, which is west of Kitale on the border between Kenya and Uganda. The kids were able to enjoy an exciting trip in a park full of caves, waterfalls, and natural pools. The park is named for the extinct volcano Mount Elgon, which is the largest volcano base in the world. The mountainside rises up from the surrounding plains and is home to hundreds of species of birds, small antelope, forest monkeys, elephants, and buffalos.
