9 more days and 25% of our goal reached

Sarah is 4.  Two years ago she was relinquished by her father after her mother died. Did you know adoption is near impossible in Kenya and there is no government program available to make sure Sarah has food to eat?  DONATIONS are her only hope.  Sarah can spend a lifetime scraping by in the slums – or she can have an opportunity to grow up in a well funded orphan refuge with clean water, dependable food and LOVING CARE TAKERS. If we don’t act Sarah could lose the only family she has now (read the story of the corrupt official trying to close the orphanage in Nairobi); her friends in the orphanage, and the orphanage directors who took her in and do their best to provide for her and the other 30 children on funding of less than $600/month.   We can’t stop the poverty and disease that creates orphans, but we can help Sarah.  Will you help her today? As of 6/11/12 Light Up Hope has received $1000 of the $4000 in donations we need to receive a matching gift of another $4000 – which would guarantee we will reach full funding of the $8,200 needed to procure land in […]

5 friends + 5 donations = 1 child

Amazing news came in last night.  We have received a matching gift of $4000 towards our goal of raising $8200 to move the children out of harms way in Nairobi to their new home in western Kenya. If we can raise $4000 in donations, our generous donor will match our $4000 raised, with an additional $4000.  Can you help us get the donations we need to receive this donation? There are 30 children living at Hands with Hope Safe House.  If you have 5 friends, and you are each able to donate $25, you can help move 1 child to Kitale.  $25 is one less dinner out to eat, one less trip to the movies, one less new shirt for summer.  $25 in and out of a pocket hardly seen.  But in Nairobi $25 will mean one step closer to clean water, fresh vegetables, a home miles away from the pollution and corruption of the slums of Nairobi. Everline is one of the children who needs your help.  Her mother was taken away from her, her father was taken away from her.  But she still has dreams to someday be a doctor and she wants to stay with her family […]

Box 189  Broomfield, CO  80038-0189 TIMELINE OF THREATS December 2011:  a local government official (the Chief of the slum of Nairobi where Hands with Hope is located) came to the safe house and told the children that he was closing the safe house.  The older children ran away from this man, but the three smallest children; Hilary, Sara and Erick were taken and brought to his office and held there overnight.  The older children and the house mother ran to tell Fred and Alice (the directors of the safe house) what had happened.  Alice went to speak with the chief […]
