Enter the Fight for Love Challenge

Every child deserves love.  Every. Single. Child.  Children in the U.S. and children in Africa, every child around the world.  But for many children this love is taken from them. Taken by disease and tragedy, taken by abuse, taken by poverty.  Children find themselves alone in life without a family, without support for their hopes and dreams and feeling a deep hole in their hearts that should be filled with love. Every day at Light Up Hope we fight to provide love for these children.  We fight to keep families together through our LIFT program, we fight to bring healing to their fragile hearts through counseling, we fight to keep their hopes and dreams alive through education and empowerment programs.  We do this because we love them, and they deserve to know though life has taken so much love from them; we are in their corner, fighting to bring love back in. Thank you Discovery for DIG-ing Deep!

This Sunday, Discovery Christian Church in Broomfield, CO will be opening the doors to the first worship service in a building of their own.  For over 14 years Discovery has been a “portable church” which means renting temporary space every week in order to hold services for over 300 members. In April of 2012 Discovery asked their membership to dig deep and generously donate to a capital campaign titled “The DIG Campaign” which would enable the church to build their first ever building on land they had owned and struggled to be able to develop for several years.  Given the high cost to build, and a limited budget, Discovery could have made the choice to retain every dollar raised to put towards the building.  Instead, the board of elders decided to put aside $100,000 of the income raised from the DIG campaign towards funding Light Up Hope, and enabling our Kenyan partners to purchase land on which to build their new orphanage and farm to support the orphans in their care. Christmas came early this year for the children at Hands with Hope Orphanage

On December 18th we had the pleasure of informing our partner in Kenya, Fred Afwai, that our prayers have been answered and we have raised three times the amount we had set for our 2011 goal; we were able to raise $15,000!  This is the very amount that Fred told us that he would need for a down payment on the land we would like to purchase in Kitale, Kenya to be the future site of the new orphanage and community center.  As they say in Kenya, “God is Good all the time, and all the time, God is Good!”. Here is Fred’s words upon receiving the news, “Words cannot explain how we feel with this good news, surely we praise the Lord for His goodness. This has been our prayer day and night for God to work out His ways so we can move forward with the plans to relocate the children.
