New playground installed

We are so thankful for the amazing generosity of all who attended Light Up Hope’s annual fundraiser, Barn Fire and the generosity of two very special girls and their birthday party fundraiser.  Because of their generosity Hope Children’s Home now has a playground installed for the younger children!  Our Kenyan partner, Alice Afwai shared with us the reaction of the children to having the new playground, “They have been seeing them (playgrounds) on TV, and in papers, now they have one, God is real!” One of the children we were particularly thrilled to see enjoying the playground with a big smile on his face is Jeff.  We first met Jeff in April of 2014.  At the time he was living in a dire situation with his Grandmother in Nairobi.  After Jeff’s mother passed away and his father abandoned him and his sister, Mary Grace, they were left in the care of their elderly grandmother.   When we met with his grandmother she shared with us that she loves Jeff and Mary very much, but the burden she was bearing was too much for her.  Inside a small one room home on the outskirts of Nairobi the grandmother was responsible for […]

What a gift! How a birthday party helped buy a playground

This October two amazing 8th grade girls from Prospect Ridge Academy in Broomfield, Colorado – Lauryn Parker and Madison Schoeder – held a combined birthday part with around 50 friends.  Instead of gifts, the girls asked that guests bring a donation to Light Up Hope and the result was $1,000 in donations!  This is not the first birthday party that has been donated to Light Up Hope, but it is certainly the most generous group of friends we have ever had the pleasure to receive a birthday gift from.  Thank you Madison and Lauryn for your generous hearts and for showing leadership to your peers through your unselfish act of kindness! As they were opening card after card with cash and checks not for them, I was so proud of these good girls and the example they set of providing for those in need. – Lauryn’s mom, Kelly Parker The girls asked that their gift be put towards the purchase of a playground for the children at Hope Children’s Home.  Below is a drawing of a playground very similar to the one that will be installed soon.  We are hoping the children of Hope Children’s Home will be playing on […]

Barn Fire was a Huge Success!

Over $127,000 raised at Barn Fire Saturday October 4th, Light Up Hope held our second annual Barn Fire Fundraiser.  This year it was held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westminster, Colorado.  250 people attended and heard Cheryln Morin share about her relationship as a child sponsor to Hilary and how that relationship has impacted her life.  Founders, Mike and Kelly Little, shared about the history of Light Up Hope and the vision for the future: uniting community involvement and empowerment programs to light a path out of poverty for orphans in Kenya.  $67,000 in donations were made at Barn Fire allowing Light Up Hope to receive the full matching gift donation of $60,000. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible generosity of the people who attended Barn Fire and are excited for how this money will be used to change lives.  To learn more about how the money will be used, read our blog: Where is this money going anyway? $60,000 Matching Gift Announced!
