We have a new name for the safe house

For years these children have been told by life circumstances and by society that they do not belong anywhere.  We wanted to give them ownership of their new home by asking them to help us name it, and they suggested beautiful names, names that shout for victory over their past, hope in their future and faith that God cares about them and is active in their lives.  The name and blessing on this land that has been chosen is:

Hope Children’s Home                                                                                 “With hope for the future and faith in God we can achieve our dreams”

“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

It encompasses the majority of the sentiments that the children expressed in naming their new home. It also honors where they have come from in Nairobi at Hands with Hope Safe House and encourages the children to hold on to hope for their future.  We believe Ellis said it best “This (name) is because a new hope is there for the children in Kaplamai (Kitale).  The farm is also a hope for the children.  There is the light for the future lives of the children because of good background support.” — Ellis is one of the high school boys who has received a scholarship to high school through the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.  He hopes to continue his education and become a doctor.

Ellis is one of 16 children who participated in brainstorming names for the new orphan refuge in Kitale, Kenya during our visit in December 2012.   Below are the other suggestions – you can see from their descriptions of the land they are truly loving their new home.

Home Sweet Home (Cecelia) – I want this home to be called like that because it is very special fill of love and also because we have a lot of things

Holy Home (Everlyne A) -This is because in this home we live in peace and love for each other.  This will stop all that are planning to destroy our home just to read the name and fear and to make us remain as God fearing people

Kaplamai Home (little Hilary) the area of Kitale where the safe house is located is called Kaplamai

Kaplamai Safe House (Reuban)Because it is a good land, a fertile land and it is a good home and a big house for us to live.  The name is too good, I like the name Kaplamai Home

Holy House -This is because it is a holy house, it is protecting us very much and it is wonderful

Ebenezer (Flevian) – I want this home to be called Ebenezer because Ebenezer is a name of God

Samuel took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer—”the stone of help”—for he said, “Up to this point the Lord has helped us!” —1 Samuel 7:12, NLT

Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood. —Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

The Founded Land (Erick) – We struggled for a new land the new begins, it is a sign to remember our struggle

Holy Home (Alphonse) – This is because the people of this home do things together like sisters and brothers, because this is a good home, because everything is being provided for us

Blessed Home (Koki) – This is because it has many crops and this the reason why I have called it blessed home

Rising Star (big Hilary) – Because we are growing and we are going to do good things in the world

Holy House (Everlyn I.) – We all live in peace and love this will make all the ones who want to destroy our land to fear it – this will make us to be God fearing people

Mustard Seed Home (Edward) – The seed is small but grows into a huge and strong tree.  The seed seems useless but its output is great.  The seed helps many people with wood for building after it has matured

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” Matthew 13:31

Open Heart House  or House of Mercy (Rodgers)
The name suggest that it is open to receive new children who are in need and also it does not discriminate against anybody.  As the name says, the house is ready to continue supporting and enlightening children all over Africa to a better Future.

The Promised Ones (Remjues)

Mustard Seed Home (Pauline) – It is small in size but it grows and produces a lot
